Volunteering and being an active member of my community and those communities around me that are in need is extremely important to me and I have been fortunate to have many opportunities throughout my life to do so.


Some highlights of my Community Involvement Include:

  • Summer 2009/2010 Camp HOPE for Kids – Organized, planned, and ran the Arts & Crafts program at Camp Hope for Kids which includes”R” Camp and Teen Camp, a summer overnight camp in Pennsylvania as well as Camp Miracles, a summer program for underprivileged youth in North Philadelphia. This entailed planning the art projects, using a budgeted amount of money to purchase the supplies, and spending the entire summer at the campground running the program for children ages 8-14 and 15-17, as well as the inner city youth being bused in.
  • Summer 2008 “R” Camp – Art Director/Operations Director Schwenksville, PAPlan and ran arts & crafts program for “R” Camp (an overnight camp for children ages 8-14); Organized and lead other camp-wide activities as well
  • Summer 2006-2008 HOPE Youth Corps (HYC) – HYC Intern/Mentor Philadelphia, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Los Angeles – HYC, a program of HOPE worldwide (a nonprofit organization), is a leadership training program comprised of teen and campus age participants from around the world that come together to serve the poor and needy in poverty-stricken communities.
  • An Overview of some past volunteer work: Ran “Camp Miracles” (a day camp/mentoring program for inner-city youth in Philadelphia); Peer Educator for “Positive Choice” (a curriculum based program promoting abstinence); Built homes in 9th Ward, New Orleans with Habitat for Humanity; Mentored children displaced by Hurricane Katrina with “Project Safe Place” in Baton Rouge; volunteered with Thorncroft, a horse back riding therapy program for handicapped children
  • Summer 2006 Mission India – Volunteer Chennai, India –Spent a month in Chennai India serving the poor and needy through the community at several leprosy colonies, a children’s AIDS home, tsunami rehabilitation colony, and slums throughout the city
  • Summer 2005 HYC/Americorps – HYC/Americorps Intern Philadelphia, Chicago, Dallas –Ran “Camp Miracles” mentoring children; “Positive Choice” Peer Educator; Mentored kids in summer school in Chicago projects and held afterschool program; Counselor at Philadelphia Teen Camp; Intern at Dallas Summer Camp
  • Summer 2003-2004 HOPE Youth Corps – HYC Member Colorado Springs, Kingston JamaicaColorado: Served in elderly home; Worked with severely disabled children; fixed up/cleaned houses of home-bound elderly; built a new community playground; Jamaica: Worked with kids at Marigold Children’s Home (orphanage); painted, cleaned and organized Mary Issa Health Clinic
  • Summer 2000-2004 “R” Camp – Camp Counselor Fredericksburg, VAOvernight summer camp counselor for kids ages 8-14
  • Year Round 1996-2004 Story Tree Gang – STG Member/Set & Prop Designer Philadelphia, PA –STG, a program of HOPE worldwide, is a youth theatrical group of teens and campus students that uses songs, dance, drama and puppetry to teach inner-city youth about issues such as peer pressure, lead paint poisoning, literacy and gang violence. STG shows have often been supported and attended by important officials such as the Mayor of Philadelphia and Colin Powell.
  • Every Wednesday Sept-Dec 2004 Salvation Army – Volunteer Norfolk, VATook soup truck out at night to deliver food to the Norfolk area
